Metroid Dread (Metoroido Doreddo?), also known as Metroid 5, is an atmospheric science-fiction horror action-adventure game in the Metroid series, developed by MercurySteam. It is their second Metroid game after Metroid: Samus Returns (2017). It was released on October 8, 2021 for Nintendo Switch. A direct sequel to Metroid Fusion, Dread was planned since 2005 for the Nintendo DS, but cancelled because of technical limitations. It lingered in development hell for 15 years until it was revived following the success of Samus Returns.
